Free Pattern: Knitted Croissant


Got some leftover yarn and wish to make a small croissant? Well, it’s your lucky day. 🥐

Whether you’re looking to add more treats to your play food pantry or simply make a brooch for your bestie, this pattern is perfect for beginners and is a great way to stash bust.

  • Project: Knitted Croissant

  • Size: Approx 5 cms wide

  • Stitches used: Cast on, purl, knit, ssk, k2tog.

  • Wool/Yarn: Two strands of light yarn, eg baby, sock, fingering or sport. Don’t mix two strands of DK or heavier or it will be impossible.

  • Tools: 3mm knitting needles, tapestry needle & scissors

 

The Pattern

 

Cast on 20 stitches with a longish tail for darning later. Rows are then as follows -

  1. Knit

  2. Purl

  3. Knit 3, ssk, knit 10, k2tog, knit 3 (you should now have 18 stitches)

  4. Purl (18)

  5. Knit (18)

  6. Purl (18)

  7. Knit 3, ssk, knit 8, k2tog, knit 3 (16)

  8. Purl 

  9. Knit

  10. Purl

  11. Knit 3, ssk, knit 6, k2tog, knit 3 (14)

  12. Purl

  13. Knit

  14. Purl

  15. Knit 3, ssk, knit 4, k2tog, knit 3 (12)

  16. Purl

  17. Knit

  18. Purl

  19. Knit 3, ssk, knit 2, k2tog, knit 3 (10)

  20. Purl

  21. Knit

  22. Purl

  23. Knit 3, ssk, k2tog, knit 3 (8)

  24. Purl

  25. Knit

  26. Purl

  27. Knit 2, ssk, k2tog, knit 2 (6)

  28. Purl

  29. Knit

  30. Purl

  31. Knit 1, ssk, k2tog, knit 1 (4)

  32. Purl

  33. Knit

  37. K2tog (1)

  38. Pull through and cut yarn, leaving a tail for darning.

🧶 You should end up with something that looks like a long triangle, similar to the pictures below.

 

Assembling

 

🥐 With the smooth side down, and starting at the triangle base roll the piece around itself, shaping it into the classic ‘c’ croissant shape as you go.

🥐 Try to end with the pointy tail and yarn tail underneath the croissant. When you’re happy, stick a pin in it to stop it unrolling.

🥐 It took me a few tries to get it just how I wanted, so don’t feel bad if you have to roll it a few times.

🥐 Once you have it pinned in place, use the two tails you have from casting on and off, to gently darn up and down, in and out, to secure the croissant’s shape. I’m a bit of a free-form sewer so don’t have more specific instructions than that 😂
