Free Pattern: Knitted Makeup Wipes

Here is a super simple pattern for little cotton wipes that are a great alternative to using disposable cotton rounds.

I find a cotton yarn is the best for texture you’re after, I love this Abbey Road italian cotton yarn from Spotlight which is fairly thick. The suggested needle size is 5-6mm (to give you an idea of gauge) but I use 3mm needles for this pattern so that the weave is nice and tight.

  • Project: Knitted Makeup Wipes

  • Size: Approx 5x5 cms

  • Stitches used: Cast on, purl, knit, cast off.

  • Wool/Yarn: Bulky cotton yarn. We use Abbey Road Kung Fu Cotton

  • Tools: 3mm knitting needles, tapestry needle & scissors

The Pattern

  • Cast on 13 stitches

  • Row 1: knit one, purl one until the end. You should finish on a knit stitch.

  • Rows 2-20: continue as row one.

  • Cast off normally

  • Weave the ends in

Tips

  • You should end up with a ‘chequered’ effect. If it looks like rib stitch it means you have dropped or added a stitch somewhere along the way.

  • When weaving in the ends, I like to split out the yarn and weave it in a few strands at a time to make it less likely to unravel.
